It is being reported this morning that Apple is
now involved in talks to purchase Pinterest’s closest thing to a
rival, The Fancy. Admittedly I personally don’t know much about
Fancy other than the name is bit weird (Is it Fancy or The Fancy?
Does it play off the idea of wanting or ‘fancying’ something?

While some folks see no difference between smartphones and
tablets, it turns out that more than 65 percent of tablet owners
primarily use the devices in their homes, according to a study
conducted by Nielsen, mobile ad network xAd and call measurement
firm Telmetrics.
The study stems from an online survey of 1,500 U.S. smartphone
and tablet users and Nielsen’s Smartphone Analytics Panel of 6,000
Apple and Android users, and specifically looked at restaurant,
auto and travel searches conducted on smartphones and tablets.
For smartphones “the majority of use [more than 65 percent] is
on the go; tablets is at home,” said Monica Ho, vp of marketing at

Demand Media had reason to be upbeat this afternoon on its
earnings call, as the company exceeded earnings expectations with
revenue up 17 percent in the second quarter of the year. The
company also turned a modest profit for its first quarter ever as a
public company and announced the promotion of Michael Blend to
president and COO.
Richard Rosenblatt, chairman and CEO of Demand Media, said in a
statement that the company will continue to expand its content
platform into mobile, video and international channels. "We also
see significant opportunities in the new generic Top Level Domain
process and invested over $18 million in Q2 in what we believe is a
seminal event for the Internet and our leading registrar."
During the call, Demand stressed the high returns of its video
initiatives, which it noted were much higher than text content.
Rosenblatt said that as long as the traffic to Demand's

Three months after launching an apps distribution center, Facebook
is offering developers the chance to push their apps with mobile
ads. The Menlo Park, Calif.-based digital giant today announced that it's beta-testing ad units
specifically designed to drive app downloads among its roughly
500 million mobile users.
Brands are being invited to take part in the pilot, and their ads
will appear in mobile users' news feeds. When an individual clicks
on one of the promos—if they do not already have the app installed
on their smart phone—they will be sent to Apple's iTunes store or
Google Play to get it.
Facebook's latest ads-related move will likely suggest to
investors and industry players that CEO Mark Zuckerberg's company
is trying to deliver on its promises of increasing
revenues and focusing on mobile products.

As if some folks haven’t found Facebook addictive enough, its
users in the United Kingdom can now gamble. The U.K. is the first
country to get offered real-money gaming on the social site.
London-based developer Gamesys has built a gambling app on
Facebook, allowing adults to play “Bingo &
Slots Friendzy” with their major credit/debit cards and PayPal
accounts. The move was announced yesterday (Aug. 6), while unveiling
90 different for-cash games.
"People love playing new types of games with their friends on
Facebook and real-money gaming is a popular
leisure activity in the U.K.," said Julien
Codorniou, Facebook’s European lead for gaming partnerships, in
a prepared statement. "We're delighted to be working with Gamesys to
enable them to offer their games on Facebook so that people can
enjoy playing more games with their friends."
According to the firms, Facebook’s age-gating and
location-detecting
