Yesterday, Search Engine Watch published
a story that was a bit outdated. What they eventually did was
redirect the story to an
older story which said the same thing.
In short, Google updated the time stamp on their
Can competitors harm ranking? help document. It was assumed by
the author of the story that the content changed as well, but it
did not. The content did change over a year ago and we
reported that but the truth is, on the negative SEO claims by
Google, Google's Matt Cutts always said it was possible.
I mean, back in 2007 we
reported Matt Cutts as saying that it is possible, but very hard.
Now it is easier but still very rare, according to Matt Cutts.
In the Hacker News
thread,

Many people are missing the point of authorship.
Strong authors who pass great Author Rank won’t be people who
simply blog a lot, all over the place; they will be contributors
who contribute amazing content that is relevant.

Do you remember the last television commercial you saw? How
about the last radio ad you listened to?
Okay, here’s one you’ll remember for sure: What
company was behind the last banner ad you saw online?
My guess is that you don’t remember any of those three types of
advertising. But don’t feel bad about it. You’re probably suffering
from “Horse Blinder Syndrome.”

It’s nothing serious, just a natural progression of how
we humans have developed a tendency to ignore
advertising. Especially online.
Display ad click-through rates have plummeted over the years,
and according to DoubleClick research and HubSpot, the average
CTR is now at a miniscule 0.1%.
So how do we brilliant marketers and creative advertisers
improve? Well, there’s something called native
advertising. And I’m 100% positive you’ve been exposed to
it already. With
native advertising showing better performance than banner

In the SEO space, there are always two
types of personalities. One is those that go head down and focus on
improving their own site and then there are those that look at
competitors and complain that they are doing things that are
illegal. Typically, it is the first kind that wins out because they
are making a difference, whereas the other is not really making a
difference.
A thread from the
SEO Blackhat Forums has one SEO, who seems new, asking about
using bad links to push down his competitors or get them penalized.
The response to that is amazing.
Here is one:
Why waste your time damaging other peoples businesses?
I don't understand some people.
Use your time to gain your own ranking back.
And another:
Better throw your efforts into boosting your own
stuff,

Jennie from the YouTube team
posted in the
YouTube Help forums that the YouTube Capture app that is
currently live is uploading videos upside down.
This seems to be a specific bug to version version 1.4, which is
live right now in the App
Store.
Google's solution to the bug? Turn your phone upside down or use
the flip feature in
YouTube enhancements. I kid you not.
Here is Jennie's response:
We're experiencing a temporary issue with YouTube
Capture v.1.4 where videos shot with the record button on the left
appear upside down. To fix this, you can rotate your video with
YouTube Enhancements.
My next search video may
be upside down for you.

I'm really excited that we're
bringing Karen McGrane, CEO
at Bond Art + Science, to
this year's MozCon. A veteran of the content world, she's a
champion of making great content accessible to your audience. Karen
proclaims that mobile is the best thing that's ever happened for
content. In fact, she wrote

and you won't want to miss it.
When Karen's not rooting for seamless content across all
devices, you might find her on Twitter @karenmcgrane and maybe
chatting about artichokes. Which as I interviewed her, I wanted to
know more about both.
What's inspired you lately?
